Poppy Piccies, 17.6.12

Poppy has now been with us for 3 weeks, during which time she has grown 3" (she is now 22" tall) and put on 12lb in weight (she is now 60lb in weight). Her joy in life can be seen in everything she does, from 10 minutes of kisses and cuddles when we get home, through to her absolute wild abandon on the field, where she loves to run full pelt through the long grass, doesnt matter what the weather is like, she loves it!

Still showing her 'puppy' creases, these really stand out when she gets wet on the grass!

Blowing raspberries, slightly nicer than the other type of raspberry she blows (then looks around as if to say, what was that, where did it come from! Lol!)

Running full pelt thru the long grass!

Prancing and leaping like a stag!

A rare moment of calm....

Poppy's favourite seat, the windowsill!

On the windowsill again!

Keeping 'poorly sick' Dad company!

I AM a lap dog, honest!

Snuggling to a flue'd up Dad

Snuggling again!

Wonder if I can get on the windowsill again!

Oops, best not, they is watching!

Aww, but Mum, I has bestest view from up there!

I know, I will go n lie down with Dad, budge up then Dad!

Come on, they is plenty of room, honest!

Poppy off lead for the first time!

Well, first time off lead, and she did really well, no bolting off, no problems at all, she kept looking back to ensure we were still there, and enjoyed 10 minutes of fetching (well sort of) her new ball on the field in the long grass.

She has been doing really well, the pulling on lead has been cured (using the Ceasar Milan method of turning around when she pulls), she is now walking without pulling really well, except when she sees another dog and wants to go and play, but a bit more work and we will have that cured.

Mini Zoomies - a Video

Snoozee time, I got Dad up at 4am, so Im allowed on the sofa for a snooze now :)

Time for some piccies and an update from Poppy :)

'Hullo, I'm Poppy, I was originally called Lexi, but my new Mummy and Daddy ddnt think it suited me, so I've now got a lovely new name, Poppy! I have already learnt it and am coming when called!'

'Mummy and Daddy were told I was a 7 month old Great Dane Puppy, and when they came to my old house they fell in love with me, even though I was too small to be a 7 month old and perhaps Im not a full bred Great Dane but a Great Dane Cross. Mummy has emailed my previous owner to see if she can find out more about my background, but both her and Daddy say it doesnt really matter, they love my beautiful looks and my sweet soft nature (and the fact I love giving them all the hugs n kisses I possibly can!)'

'I slept through on my first night on the couch downstairs, without even waking up once, Mummy and Dady were very proud of me and gave me lots of hugs n treats for being sooo good! I have had an accident or two, but Mummy and Daddy havent shouted at me, they just cleared it up and took me out so I could have a wee on the grass. I have tried to be good and not chew anything except the chews that I am given, but when Mummy was asleep the other night I couldnt resist chewing one of her shoes, luckily it was a pair she doesnt wear often, so I didnt get into too much trouble, I also took the nasty underwire out of one of Mummy's bra's for her, but she didnt seem too impressed with it, so Im NOT allowed to take any more out, and I was very sorry too!'

'Mummy put some piccies of me on the Great Dane Owners Forum and Facebook, where lots of lovely people said I was very pretty, which made me feel really special! I have had a fun filled first week, lots of walkies on the park next to the canal, I have met lots of other doggies, most of whom I have played nicely with, but some dogs make me nervous so I hide behind Mum to make sure I am safe! I am the biggest one on the field in a morning, yet I am still only a puppy, so I dont know exactly how big I am going to get yet, Mummy thinks I am 5 months or so old, and possibly a Great Labradane (sounds posh but it really means I am a Great Dane cross Labrador, nothing but a crossbreed, but that doesnt really matter, all that matters is Mummy and Daddy love me and look after me)'

'Mummy measured my height at 18" on my first night, and weighed me at 48lb's, I know I look thin (all my ribs can be seen through my fur), but I have lots of muscles and can pull hard when I'm on the lead, which Mummy says I need to learn not to do. Mummy measured my height again today, and it was 21" at the top of my shoulder, so either she made a mistake when she measured me last Sunday or I am growing, which if I am only 4 or 5 months old is quite possible! She says if I am a Labradane I could grow up to be 30" tall, or I could get no bigger than 24" tall, I know it doesnt really matter, but I secretly think Mummy and Daddy would like me to grow as tall as I can!'

'Daddy is amazed at how big my Poos are, the dog poos bags he bought are waaay too small, he had to get some nappy sacks instead! I think he thinks this means I am going to be a BIIIG Girl when I finish growing up!'

'Anyhows, its np time, Im still a pup so need lots of naps, especially after getting Daddy up at 4am this morning, I had a BIG drink last night after my last walk and needed to go out for a wee, luckily Dad got up for me!'

'I think Mummy is going to take me to the allotment later on, lots more things for me to explore, and perhaps even back to the park, I love having mini zoomies on my extending long lead, and LOVE the long grass that I can go jumping through like a Stag!'
